Two-third works completed under Bundelkhand Package

Bhopal: Chief Secretary Shri R. Parasuram reviewed department-wise and district-wise progress of works being carried out under Bundelkhand Package in six districts of the state here today. The Water Resources Department has completed 85 percent works against the annual target. Besides, Rural Development, Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry, Forest and Public Health Engineering departments are also comple works at a rapid pace. Under the package, two-third works have been completed on an average this year.
The Chief Secretary apprised him in detail of activities being carried out under the package in Sagar, Damoh, Chhatarpur, Tikamgarh, Panna and Datia districts. He lauded officers of concerning departments, especially the Water Resources Department, for completing works and directed to complete remaining works at the earliest. The Chief Secretary directed to complete the works with quality. He said that heads of departments should constantly review availability of funds received from the Union Government as well as development works.
Water Resources Department
It was informed at the meeting that the Water Resources Department is increasing a total of 2 lakh 16 thousand 111 hectare irrigation potential. Funds to the tune of Rs. 641 core 25 lakh have been spent on these works. The works accomplished by the department include command area development, improvement in lift irrigation scheme, increase in capacity of minor irrigation projects and canals and Bariyarpur Canal Major Project.
Animal Husbandry Department
Funds to the tune of Rs. 20 crore 06 lakh have been spent under activities carried out by the Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development Department. Dairy plant at Sagar is functioning successfully. Fodder banks and goat farms have also been developed. Attention is being paid constantly to these works. The Chief Secretary directed to empower milk cooperative societies and accelerate pace of their activities. A total of 544 milk cooperative societies have been established under the Package.
Agriculture Department
Under Bundelkhand Package, agriculture development activities are being carried out at 67 places. Agriculture sector is also getting benefit of increase in irrigation potential. The Chief Secretary direct to extend more benefit of these activities to farmers.
Public Health Engineering Department
The Public Health Engineering Department also accomplished two-third target. The department has made piped water arrangements at 805 places in six districts. In the area, 575 new water sources have been developed and 870 pump houses constructed. In all, 1287 works have been carried out to increase drinking water facility. The Chief Secretary directed to link primary drinking water sources with sanitation.
Construction of warehouses
Warehousing facilities are being enhanced at 64 places in six districts under Bundelkhand Package. Godowns to total 6 lakh 40 thousand 450 metric tonne capacity are being constructed.
Rural Development Department
The Chief Secretary was informed that 145 stop-dam have been constructed under the Package. In the six districts, 1619 field tanks and 32 thousand 883 dug-wells have been constructed and 22 thousand 194 pump sets provided to farmers. Works have also been carried out to renovate and recharge over 3 thousand dug-wells.
During the review, activities of the Forest Department were also reviewed. The Chief Secretary asked the department to further intensify its activities.
It was informed at the meeting that additional funds to the tune of Rs. 1953.20 crore were sanctioned to the state under Bundelkhand Package for current fiscal against which Rs. 1425.64 crore has been received. Of this, Rs. 906.07 crore has been spent. It is the third year of Bundelkhand Package’s implementation in the state.
Chief Secretary Shri Parasuram said that remaining works should be completed at a rapid pace and situation of under-achievement of targets should not be allowed to crop up. He said that new dimensions of socio-economic development will take place in districts after completion of these works. The State Government is implementing works under Bundelkhand Package with utmost sincerity and priority. Works of the concerning departments will be reviewed next months also.
Additional Chief Secretary Food Shri Antony J.C. D’sa, Additional Chief Secretary Panchayat & Rural Development Smt. Aruna Sharma, Additional Chief Secretary and Commissioner Agricultural Production Shri M. M. Upadhyay, Principal Secretary Water Resources Shri R.S. Julania, Principal Secretary Agriculture Shri R.K. Swai and Principal Secretary Cooperative Shri Devraj Birdi were present on the occasion. At the outset, Secretary Planning Shri Sudhi Ranjan Mohanty gave information about works carried out by various departments for achieving physical and financial targets.
