Chhattisgarh police have arrested seven Maoists rebels from Narayanpur district in the state, informed the police on Monday. The rebels were rounded up on Sunday evening when they were on their way to the ‘Mauli Mela’ – a famous local festival held in the Naxal-infested district.
Policemen belonging to district police force (DF) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), stationed at different entry points of the fair venue, identified the rebels when they were trying to enter the mela venue and rounded them up for questioning.
According to media reports the rebels were later put through sustained interrogation and admitted to involvement in several incidents in the district, following which they were formally arrested on Monday.
N weapons or ammunition has been recovered from the accused.
