Protesting Power Cuts, BSP Legislature Walks out of Assembly

Protesting power cuts in rural and semi-urban areas during examination months, BSP MLA Ram Lakhan Singh Yadav staged a walkout from the state assembly on Monday, reported PTI.

Singh insisted, during Question Hour, that power supply hours should be increased in rural and semi-urban areas as students appearing for annual exams were faced with difficulties, report said.

In response, Energy Minister Rajendra Shukla said that government had already increased power supply by one hour and it could raise the period further, for state was facing a power deficit of 1,500 MW, report said.

Singh, who still insisted on increasing power supply duration in these areas, also demanded that government should make sure that power supply was not cut during early morning and later evening, said report.

When Shukla expressed inability to comply with the request, the MLA walked out from the House to register his protest.
