Sports to get boost in Madhya Pradesh

Bhopal. In a bid to promote sports in the state, Madhya Pradesh Government will recognise and provide grants to sports federations. Scheme will be chalked out for promoting sports in the state with the coordination between Sports Department and sports organisations. Chief Minister Shivraj singh Chouhan said on Thursday.
congratulating sports organisations for state’s outstanding performance in National Games and winning maximum medals, shri Chouhan said, ‘State Government wishes to extend assistance to sports organisations. For this, a strategy to promote sports will be chalked out with joint efforts. it will be through the efforts of all that Madhya Pradesh will become top state in sports in the country.’
Chief Minister said that Lack of funds will not be allowed to come in its way. Sports Department’s budget has been increased from Rs. three crore to Rs. 118 crore. It will be increased further, if required. He said that the State Government has initiated several important steps to promote sports and sportspersons. Initiative has been taken to provide government jobs to the sportspersons bringing laurels to the state. Besides, appeal will also be made to industrial houses to adopt sports.
Madhya Pradesh Olympic Federation president Shri Ramesh Mendola expressed gratitude towards the Chief Minister for his efforts to promote sports. He said that now the budget for sports has been increased to Rs. 118 crore due to the efforts made by the Chief Minister. As a result of it, sports facilities have increased further and number of medals won by the state players in various national and international events has also gone up considerably. He urged to provide 10 percent of the sports budget for management and running of sports organisations.
Madhya Pradesh Olympic Federation General Secretary Shri S.R. Dev said that Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan is recognised as sports lover Chief Minister throughout the country.
Sports organisations’ representatives handed over a memorandum to the Chief Minister. Commerce & Industries Minister Shri Kailash Vijayvargiya, Madhya Pradesh Olympic Federation Treasurer Shri Jitu Jirati, Madhya Pradesh Athletics Association president Shri Vishwas Sarang, Madhya Pradesh Wushu Association president Shri N.K. Tripathi, Director Sports Shri Shailendra Singh, Secretary Sports Shri Ashok Shah, MLAs Shri Yashpal Singh Sisodiya and Shri Girijashankar Sharma and office-bearers of various sports organisations were present on the occasion.
