Rajashtan recognise Madhhya Pradesh as role model for wheat procurement

Bhopal. Madhya Pradesh’s policy of e-procurement of wheat on support price is now recognised by Rajasthan’s congress led government.  A team comprising officers of Rajasthan government have come here on Thursday to study the policy.
The six-member study team led by Rajasthan’s Additional Commissioner Food Shri S.K. Solanki made in-depth study of Madhya Pradesh’s e-procurement policy during the last two days. Members of the team informed Shri Paras Jain Minister of State for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection (independent charge) about it at the Academy of Administration here. Giving information about wheat procurement in Rajasthan through FCI, the team members said that they will suggest to the Rajasthan government to emulate the exercise adopted by Madhya Pradesh.
Shri Paras Jain said that as per wish of Chief Minister Shri Chouhan, efforts have been made to deposit amount of bonus directly in the bank accounts of farmers. He informed that this ambitious procurement project implemented successfully throughout the state has won State-level IT Excellence Award in the inaugural year itself. The Chief Minister has also publicly lauded the Food Department for this work.
He informed that wheat was procured through computerised system during the Rabi marketing year 2012-13. The process was started with registration of farmers in November 2011. In all, 15 lakh 65 thousand 882 farmers were registered in three phases and 85 lakh 06 thousand metric tonnes of wheat was procured from 10 lakh 26 thousand 882 farmers at 2309 procurement centres. Farmers were registered through kiosks of MP Online and CSC. Farmers were called through SMS to procurement centres to buy their wheat.
