Mayawati’s statue vandalised in Lucknow

New Delhi: BSP supremo and Former Uttar Pradesh Chief minister Mayawati’s statue, situated at Ambedkar park in Gomti nagar area of capital Lucknow has allegedly vandalised by the activists of  a little known group Nav Nirman Sena on Thursday.
The white marble statue installed in the Bhimrao Ambedkar Samajik Parivartan Sthal was damaged by some persons on Thursday afternoon, sources said.
A big hammer was apparently used to vandalise the face and head of the statue, they said.
Heavy police force has been deployed on the spot.
Significantly, the action coincided with a press conference by Amit Jani which was in progress at UP press club where he demanded the removal of the statues of Mayawati.
In the press conference Amit Jani announced giving the Uttar Pradesh government 72 hours for the removal of the statues.
However in a highly planned action, the activists attacked the statue even before the press conference was over.
A security guard, Ram Bachan Ram, said that the men climbed the statue and damaged it with hammers carrying two bags along with them.
He added that the men fled the spot after damaging the statue.
Senior officials, including Principal Secretary, Home, RM Srivastava, DGP Ambrish Chandra Sharma and the District Magistrate, who have reached the spot, said serious note has been taken of the incident and strict action would be taken against those involved in the act.
BSP leader Swami Prasad Maurya also inspected the spot and demanded that the statues be immediately repaired and those involved in the act should be arrested.
A number of pamphlets of Uttar Pradesh Nav Nirman Sena were also found on the spot and police suspect it to be their handiwork.
