CM Writes to Sonia, Wants Cong MLAs to Attend Special Assembly Session

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has said that he wrote to Congress President Sonia Gandhi urging her to tell legislators of her party in Madhya Pradesh to participate in the special session of the state Assembly beginning tomorrow, said media reports.

Talking to reporters at his residence, Singh said that he did this because he thought it was necessary for the Congress MLAs to take part in the session, which is being convened to discuss the idea of a golden Madhya Pradesh, reports said.

“The session had been called specifically to discuss the idea of golden Madhya Pradesh and issues like corruption and law and order could be talked about in other sessions,” Chouhan was quoted as saying.

The chief minister also said that he was also considering meeting state Congress chief Suresh Pachauri to ask him to tell his party legislators to attend the session, reports said.

“Even suggestions from Congress MLAs on turning Madhya Pradesh into a golden state were welcome,” Chouhan was quoted as saying.

In response to a query as to what need was there to convene a special session when the issue could have been discussed at an all-party meeting, he said that ‘the assembly gave it a proper dignity’, reports said.

“I cannot understand why the Congress Legislature Party decided to boycott the session. This may have some thing to do with infighting within the Congress,” he was quoted as saying.
