Centre Gave Conditional Permission to Prabhakaran’s Mother to Visit TN: Karunanidhi

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi has said that the Centre on certain conditions gave permission to slain LTTE leader Prabhakaran’s mother Parvathi Ammal to visit the state for medical treatment, said media reports.

In a suo motu statement in the state Assembly, the chief minister said that the Indian mission in Kuala Lumpur, where Parvathi is staying presently, has been informed about the Centre’s decision, reports said.

He said that the Centre gave permission to the 80-year-old Parvathi only for the purpose of medical treatment, said reports.

Last month, immigration officials deported her to Malaysia from where she had come to Chennai for treatment.

Enumerating Centre’s condition, Karunanidhi said that Parvathi had to confine herself to the hospital and should stay elsewhere, reports said.

He said that she could avail of treatment in a government hospital if she wanted, said reports.

“State will make all necessary arrangements for it,” he was quoted as saying.

However, he said that she could not keep in contact with any political party or banned organizations or those connected with them and that she should interact only with close relatives whom she has mentioned specifically, said reports.

The chief minister said that central government granted Parvathi as six-month visa without interrupting a pending case in the High Court, reports said.

“Usually this type of procedure will take a long time. However, considering Parvathi Ammal’s health, the Centre and the state had taken the initiative (to speed up the process),” he was quoted as saying.
