After Chidikho, Tourism Board turn to Kathotiya

Bhopal. Reaching Kathotiya to watch 17-18 thousand years Old rock paintings become easier now. Madhya Pradesh Eco Tourism Board has chalk out a plan to popularize Kathotiya, which is just 28 kilometers away from Bhopal.
Village Kathotiya gets this name, as it is surrounded by hills looks like a ‘katori’ (bowel). Rock paintings of prehistoric era have been found about 32 places in Kathotiya. These rock paintings are 17 to 18 thousand years old. The Eco-Tourism Board is launching one-day tour package “Jungle Caravan” from June 23 for helping nature lovers to watch these rock paintings. Besides Kathotiya, the tour package also covers Kerwa, Van Vihar, Samardha and Chidikho. Tourists can choose anyone of these places.
Kathotiya eco-tour package : A special bus of Eco-Tourism will take tourists to Kathotiya at 9 am from Urja Bhavan, Link Road, Shivaji Nagar, Bhopal. At Kathotiya, tourists will enjoy jungle trek, rock climbing, rappelling and rock paintings from 10 to 10.30 am. After taking tea and snacks from 12.30 to 12.45 pm, tourists will visit village Kathotiya. Besides looking lifestyle of Bhil and Bhilala tribals from close quarters, tourists will also watch making of handicraft, tribal art, baskets and earthen pots. After lunch, tourists will leave Kathotiya at 2.30 pm for Jhiriya where they will spend time on bird watching and nature walk from 3.50 to 5 pm. Each tourist will have to pay Rs. 800 for the package. Minimum 12 and maximum 25 tourists will form each group. The tour package is being implemented with the assistance of local people. This will not only assist tourists in getting detailed information about local natural environs, flora and fauna and places, but will also provide job opportunities to villagers.
