Removal of Temple Encroachment, Protest turns Violent
Bhopal — Nearly a dozen police personnel, including an ASI, sustained wounds when a violent mob indulged in stone pelting to protest the city administration’s move to raze a Sai Baba temple in the Rishi Nagar slum of the state capital.
Trouble erupted early on Sunday morning as anti-encroachment officials reached the spot to demolish the temple in accordance with orders, reportedly, issued by Bhopal collector Sheo Shekhar Shukla on Saturday.
The orders were in line with recent Supreme Court directives seeking the removal of encroachments from Government land.
Seven people, including a BJP corporator, were taken into custody in connection with the ruckus, they were later released on bail.
A police posse was deployed in the area and the situation was reported to be calm.
