Man-eater Bear Shot Dead
A man-eater bear which clawed four persons to death has been shot dead by police in Tanasar Forest Range in Sidhi district.
Sidhi Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), R B Sharma said that policemen shot bear dead yesterday as it had turned a man-eater and killed four persons near Rampur village on October 28.
“The bear had become a man-eater. It killed four and injured three persons who had gone to the forest to retrieve the bodies,” he said.
A team of forest and police officers first tried to capture the bear alive but when it attacked them, the policemen shot it dead.
“The bear had come from the adjoining forest,” Sharma said.
The state government has announced a compensation of Rs one lakh to the family members of the deceased, he added.
