Kalam visiting IIM-Indore

INDORE: Ex-President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam started his two day visit to IIM on Sunday. He delivered a lecture on ‘The Journey of Life,’ He shared some of his fondest and life-changing moments among students especially of his student life. He said, “When I was in class 5, my teacher taught me how a bird flies. It was then I felt inspired to become a rocket scientist”. He said failure management was an essential requirement for leadership in the present world. “It is important to manage failure to grow and become a leader and inspire others,” he said while citing an example of his first failure in Satellite Launch Vehicle (SLV) Rohini.

He made the audience recite two poems along with him and inspired them to grow as better individuals. IIM-I director Dr N Ravichandran was also recite the poem with him.“It does not matter who you are, where you come from, where you work. There are only two tools that will define you- continuous acquiring of knowledge and hard work,” he said.

He also interacted with youngsters and answers their questions. He said use of technology is important in educational institutes including schools, but the conventional primary school teaching could never be replaced by any technology. He told students to developed righteousness in their hearts. Kalam will hold lecture sessions for Post Graduate Program (PGP) and Integrated Program in Management (IPM) students. He will visit Holkar Science College on Monday.

Eight activists of the Azadi Bachao Andolan from the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) premises has been arrested 20 minutes ahead of the arrival of former President of India on Sunday. They were protesting against Dr Kalam’s support to the controversial Kudankalam nuclear plant in Tamil Nadu.
