MLA kidnapped by maoist

NEW DELHI/ BHUVANESWAR: BJD MLA Jhina Hikaka has been kidnapped by Maoists from Koraput district thus increasing the ongoing crisis and pilling out of two negotiators mediating in abduction of two Italians. The 37-year-old Laxmipur MLA, has been abducted by about 100 armed Maoists from the Koraput- Laxmipur road past midnight.

Maoists allowed MLA’s driver and personal security officer to go and left behind leaflets which said that their 13 demands should be fulfilled says police. The efforts to free Italians Bosusco Paolo, 54, and Claudio Colangelo, 61, who were taken hostage on March 17 in Kandhamal was blocked by this incidence.

Mediators BD Sharma and Dandapani Mohanty suspended talks with the government negotiators by calling it a “mockery”.

Chief minister Naveen Patnaik said the talks would continue. He said,” The Maoist negotiators have withdrawn after the abduction of the Laxmipur MLA and other violent acts by the Maoists.

”He further added,“We expect the Maoists to nominate new mediators for the release of the two Italians as well as for Hikaka.”

Maoist leader Sabyasachi Panda alleged the Odisha government of violating the dialogue by continuing with security operations, in a tape. The two abductions were viewed as a power struggle between the Maoists by union hone ministry. Hikaka was kidnapped by the Andhra Odisha border special zonal committee which was headed by Ramakrishnan. he wants to to snub Panda.
