Cong Henchmen More Influential in MP after LS Polls: Mehta

Some regional henchmen of the Congress party have enhanced their hold and some others have passed down their legacy to thier heirs in the state in the wake of recently concluded parliamentary elections, said a political analyst.

“Former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Digvijay Singh emerged as the most powerful constituency while that of his political guru, Arjun Singh has passed on to his son, Ajay Singh,” political analyst, BD Mehta said.

Nevertheless, Mehta said that in the constituencies of Union ministers, Kamalnath and Jyotiraditya Scindia and State Congress president, Suresh Pachouri, the party’s strength remains as it was, showing no change.

Needless to mention, the Congress failed to snatch power from the ruling BJP in last year’s assembly poll but managed to enhance it tally in Lok Sabha elections by winning 12 seats while BJP could get 16, 9 less than previous 25.

Mehta also said that following parliamentary elections, Digvijay Singh’s stature has elevated as Congress president, Sonia Gandhi herself gave credit to him for the party’s improved performance.

Another feather in Singh’s cap is that his campaigning helped the Congress to win from the Rajgarh constituency in the state, where the BJP nominee was his younger brother, Laxman Singh.
