24X7 monitoring of liquor sale in Madhya Pradesh

Bhopal: Officers of the Excise Department are keeping 24X7 watch over distilleries, bottling units of foreign and country liquor and warehouses of foreign liquor in view of Vidhan Sabha election on November 25. Chief Secretary Shri Anthony de Sa has issued directives to officers regarding this. Chief Electoral Officer Shri Jaideep Govind has directed district election officers to monitor activities of liquor warehouses and plants by installing CC TV cameras.

Raids continue: Officers of the Excise Department are conducting raids continuously to prevent illegal transportation and sale of liquor. The department’s flying squads have seized 4 thousand 978 litre liquor during 734 raids over last 24 hours and arrested 406 persons in this connection. Raids were also conducted throughout the state to seize country-made liquor during which 50 persons were held. In the raids, 1622 litre liquor was seized. During raids, 189 litre beer was also seized and 10 persons arrested.
Officers of the Excise Department in the raids in Dhar district seized 21 thousand 600 liter foreign liquor brought from Punjab. The liquor was in 24 bottles kept in boxes. Its market value is about Rs. 2.50 lakh. The Election Commission of India has also directed for joint action by Excise Department officers and police in urban slums and rural areas till polling day.
