CG to Fillip AIDS Testing Facilities

Unveiling plans to establish 100 testing and counselling centers to identify people living with the HIV virus, Chhattisgarh government on Tuesday said that the state has about 5,000 AIDS patients.

The testing centers will come up in all 18 districts of the state by next year, a senior health department official said.

‘The number of AIDS patients is rising in the state. We have so far 4,975 confirmed AIDS patients but these patients mostly belong to urban and semi-urban areas. We need to develop medical facilities in the interiors to detect people living with HIV/AIDS virus,’ Health Department Secretary Vikas Sheel was quoted as saying.

The state also plans to supplement its only Anti-Retroviral Therapy (ART) Centre in the state capital Raipur by establishing similar facilities in Bilaspur, Durg and Jagdalpur.
