A tigress killed another in a territorial fight
BHOPAL: In Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve of Madhya Pradesh, a tigress was killed and eaten by another tigress in a territorial fight, according to officials. Bandhavgarh, spread over an area of 700 sq km in eastern Madhya Pradesh.
On Saturday the carcass of 9-year-old tigress Laxmi, mother of two cubs, was found from Salatekari area at Tala Range of the Reserve, in Umaria district.
Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve’s Field Director C K Patil said, Kankati had sustained an eye injury. Laxmi was killed and eaten by Kankati (4), after a possible fight over territory.
On Saturday Forest guards saw Kankati eating the slain tigress; he said Laxmi and Kankati had fought in the past too.
Probably this is the first incident of a tiger killing and eating someone from its own family!
