Jaswant’s Kandahar Hijack Claim Suspicious, Opportunistic: Cong
In response to senior BJP leader Jaswant Singh’s claim that LK Advani had opposed the decision to free terrorists during the Kandhar hijack crisis, Congress, dismissing the clarification, described it as “suspicious and opportunistic”.
“The claim is suspicious in timing, completely opportunistic and self-serving to cover up Advani’s default and promote his prime ministerial ambition,” Congress spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi said, adding, “Noting that the statement has come 10 years too late, such self-serving statements in the middle of elections fool no one.”
Yesterday, Jaswant had said in Darjeeling, “Two members in the Vajpayee Cabinet were opposed to the idea of release of any terrorist in exchange for hijacked Indian Airlines passengers and pay any price. L K Advani and Arun Shourie voiced their views against…That should not be done. And I am sharing this for the first time.”
