Dental, Bone Tests to Find 26/11’s Supect Age
In 26/11 Mumbai terror attack case, a special court has ordered a medical test to find out the correct age of Mohammed Ajmal Amir Kasab, the only Pakistani surviving suspect of the attack.
The court’s order, given by special judge ML Tahilyani, came as a result of consideration over Public Prosecutor Ujjawal Nikam’s application questioning the defence plea to try Kasab as a juvenile on grounds that he is 17.
The judge, in his order, said that during the test two witnesses would be present – the Superintendent of Arthur Road Central Jail Swati Sathe who had first written his age, and the doctor who had first treated Kasab after his arrest in the early hours of November 27 last year.
The tests, dental and bone examinations for medical determination of age, are to be submitted to the Special Court by April 28 as per the directives.
Earlier, challenging the defence argument Nikam had said that Kasab had given his age 21 on three different occasions – once to the police and jail authorities, then to the doctor who examined him and the third time to the magistrate before whom he recorded his confessional statement.
