India Decision to Resume Talks with Pak Positive Step: Qureshi

Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has described India’s step to resume talks as a ‘positive step’, however, saying that the result of the talks depends up on the Indian response, reported IANS.

“We are ready for meaningful engagement with India,” he was quoted as saying in a press conference on Thursday in Brussels at the sidelines of an international security conference.

“We would want to discuss all issues that have strained our relations over the years,” Qureshi was quoted as saying, adding: “If we do not recognise those issues then the dialogue will not be meaningful”.

“It depends on the kind of response and mindset of India,” he said. “If they are open minded, if they are constructive then this engagement would lead to other favourable developments, but if they have their mind shut I do not see a meaningful forward movement.”

The minister said that he was sending the Pakistani foreign secretary to New Delhi for the talks scheduled on 25th of this month, said report.

Describing the water issue as ‘very sensitive issue’ for Pakistani, he said that he intended to the raise the matter with India very soon, report said.

Nonetheless, Qureshi stressed that it “would be not to blame India” for the water problem, citing that Pakistan should utilise its share of water in a more efficient way.
