In a shocking incidence, a 16-year-old Dalit girl, who was raped and then threatened by the accused, killed herself in Uttar Pradesh, reported CNN-IBN.

Report said that police even declined to lodge an FIR against the accused Balkishan.

The girl was raped in Khadakhar village on February 12 by an upper caste youth.

She committed suicide four days later after the accused came to her house again to threaten her.

“He came inside our house and took my sister inside a room. We were all screaming. After some time my sister put herself on fire and died,” the girl’s sister Kiran was quoted as saying.

According to family, the girl resorted to the very step, as there was no one to help them, said report.

The police had first refused to file an FIR against the accused, Balkishan, when they reported the rape

“The police did not file our case nor did they catch the culprit. That’s why we have lost our child,” the girl’s maternal grandfather was quoted as saying.

Report said that police hurriedly filed an FIR on February 16 after girl’s death.

“There was a case of rape. The culprit was arrested and investigation is on,” SP Suryanath Singh was quoted as saying.
