Area under irrigation to be increased to make agriculture profitable

Bhopal: Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan has said that area under irrigation will be increased for making agriculture profitable in the state. He said that work is being carried out at a rapid pace on 200 irrigation projects costing Rs. 5 crore in Chhatarpur district. Shri Chouhan was inaugurating Bariyarpur left bank canal irrigation project at Raj Nagar in Chhatarpur district today. The Chief Minister inaugurated and laid foundation stones for 73 development works of the district. Bariyarpur left bank canal irrigation project worth Rs. 550 crore will irrigate 43 thousand 850 hectare.
Chief Minister Shri Chouhan said that the State Government has taken a number of decisions in the interest of farmers. Interest rate on loans extended to farmers has been reduced from 18 percent to Zero percent. He said that power will be made available to villages for 24 hours from 2013. Shri Chouhan said that efforts are afoot to open a university at Chhatarpur. The Chief Minister said that a government college will be opened at Raj Nagar from next academic session. He announced to start piped water scheme at village Daharra, to upgrade primary school to middle school. He announced to upgrade primary school to middle school in village Pathirya also. The Chief Minister also released Pahal magazine focusing on development of Bundelkhand and Udan magazine focusing on Beti Bachao Abhiyan. The Chief Minister honoured parents of only daughters on the occasion.
Over 22 thousand get benefit at Antyodaya Mela
At Antyodaya Mela in Raj Nagar, Chief Minister Shri Chouhan distributed Rs. 12 crore 31 lakh to 22 thousand 221 beneficiaries under various schemes of the State Government. The Chief Minister also inaugurated and laid foundation stones for development works worth Rs. 650 crore in Raj Nagar development block. Water Resources Minister Shri Jayant Malaiya, Farmers’ Welfare Minister Dr. Ramkrishna Kusmaria, Minister of State for Scheduled Castes Welfare and in-charge of the district Shri Harishankar Khatik, Member of Parliament Shri Jitendra Singh Bundela, MLAs Shri Vikram Singh Nati Raja, Shri Manvendra Singh, Smt. Lalita Yadav, Smt. Rekha Yadav, Smt. Asha Rani Singh and panchayat representatives were present on the occasion.
