His Name is Khan and AMU is on the Agenda

Bollywood icon Shah Rukh Khan will interact with students at the famed Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) on Jan 23, poet Javed Akhtar and his actor activist wife Shabana Azmi will accompany SRK during the visit – say reports citing varsity officials on Tuesday.

According to varsity officials, the decision to invite Shah Rukh, Javed and Shabana, has been taken following their requests to interact with the students.

“They had just wished to interact with the students. They had not mentioned any particular topic on which they want to interact. So, AMU is inviting them on their personal wishes,” AMU spokesperson Rahat Abrar was quoted as saying.

While SRK is an alumnus of the Jamia Millia, where he studied Mass Communications, Javed Akhtar has links to the AMU.

Though no official conformations are available, SRK’s trip to AMU is being viewed as a promotion event for his upcoming flick ‘My Name is Khan’ scheduled for a global release Feb. 12.

Shabana Azmi was originally cast to play SRK’s mother in the film, but later opted out after shooting was delayed due to a shoulder injury the superstar suffered.

The movie revolves around a mildly autistic Rizwan (SRK) – an Indian immigrant in the US – and his lady love, Mandira (Kajol), and the twists the tragic 9-11 incident brings to their relationship.
