Swine Flu Death: Patients Were Immediately Medicated, Says Health Deptt
In the wake of two Swine flu deaths in the state capital last week, Madhya Pradesh Health Department has clarified that treatment of patients was not deferred for the arrival of test report, said an official press release
Hina (23) and Krishna, a 14-month-old child, died of swine flu on January 13.
Dr VK Sharma informed that Hina was admitted on January 13 itself, medicated with Temiflu medicine, put on ventilator and her sample sent to Jabalpur for test, said release, adding she died on the same day.
As for child Krishna of village Rampur, tehsil Shujalpur in Shajapur district, she was also admitted to January 13 in a private hospital, said release.
Dr Mukesh Jain of the private hospital informed that the patient was in a serious condition and treatment of swine flu was immediately started on the basis of symptoms, said release. Krishna died in the evening.
Claiming that treatment of both patients was started before arrival of the report, the department said that if a patient belonging to C category is taken to hospital, he is immediately admitted and swine flu medicines are administered to him, said release.
As per the directives of Government of India, three categories – A, B and C – have been made for the treatment of swine flu.
When the A category patient reaches hospital, he is given medicines for cold and flu while a B category patient is administered swine flu medicines. However, when a C category patient arrives at a hospital, he is immediately admitted. His sample is taken and treatment of swine flu is started without waiting for the report on the sample, said release.
