Authority to Be Set up for Delhi-Mumbai Corridor Project

For development and implementation of Delhi-Mumbai Industrial corridor project, state government will soon set up an Authority.

The decision was taken at a meeting presided by chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan at the Mantralaya during a presentation related to the corridor before the state government.

During the meeting, it was informed that an empowered committee has already been constituted under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary for implementing the projects under the corridor in the state.

Also, a steering committee has been constituted and project consultant has been appointed.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan gave instruction to present a blueprint about acquisition of private lands for the corridors under Madhya Pradesh at the earliest.

Singh said that situations prevailing in the state as well related policies of other states should be kept in view while chalking out the project draft and that it is also necessary to keep in the mind the interests of private land owners as well as the state.

The corridor, which covers 14 percent population of the country, will be a Dedicated Rail Freight Corridor between New Delhi and Mumbai, under which a high impact development area will be developed on 150 kilometre stretch on both sides of the corridor in six states including Madhya Pradesh.

Twenty four integrated areas have been identified in these states under the project. Of them, 11 will be investment areas and 13 industrial areas.

The corridor, which is being developed as an international manufacturing and trade center, is being constructed with the assistance of Japan. It will cost nearly USD 150, half of which will be born by government of India and the other half by Japan.

The project covers 24 percent of state’s population and 20 percent of its area, with included districts being Indore, Dhar, Shajapur, Ujjain, Dewas, Ratlam, Neemuch, Jhabua, Mandsaur and Rajgarh.

Pithampur-Dhar-Mhow investment area and Ratlam-Nagda investment area, Shajapur-Dewas and Neemuch-Nayagaon industrial areas have been identified in integrated form under the project.
