Within four days of trial, rapist get 14 years jail in Khandwa

Khandwa: For the first time in India, a person who raped a minor girl has been sentenced to 14 years’ imprisonment completing hearing within 4 days under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act 2012 in Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh.
The culprit, 24-year-old Jitendra of village Bhadlikheri under Narmada Nagar police station in Khandwa district had committed unnatural sex after a rape attempt on a one and a half year old girl child on November 23, 2012. The case was registered as a heinous/sensational crime.
The District & Sessions Judge, Khandwa took cognisance of the case under Section 6 of the above-mentioned Act. The prosecution presented evidence daily from January 21 to 24, 2013. The court examined the accused on January 28 and passed the order after hearing the arguments finding no evidence in his defence.
The accused has been sentenced to 14 years’ rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 5000. The court has also recommended to the State Government to ensure compensation in addition to Rs. 5000 under rule 7 of the Act.
