Calcutta HS Upholds Death Sentence Awarded to Ansari, Naseer

In the American Centre terror attack case, Calcutta High Court has maintained the death punishment awarded to Aftab Ansari and Jamaluddin Naseer, reported CNN-IBN.

Besides, the High Court also exonerated three of the accused and reduced the quantum of punishment of another two, said report.

The court had stayed the execution of both Ansari and Naseer for three months so as to allow them to appeal before the Supreme Court, said report.

Seven people including Ansari and Naseer were sentenced to death by a trial court in the case. Ansari move the High Court challenging the verdict.

Ansari and six other members of the terror organisation Asif Reza Commando Force were convicted for attacking the American Center in January 2002.

Five Kolkata Police personnel were killed in the attack.
