Dissatisfied Congress Walks Out of MP Assembly

Bhopal  —  Members of the Congress, the main opposition in the state, walked out of the Madhya Pradesh assembly on Tuesday. The lawmakers were expressing dissatisfaction over the state government’s response to a question over the involvement of the chief minister’s secretariat in an alleged scam.

Deputy leader of opposition in the assembly, Chaudhary Rakesh Singh, raised the matter during Question Hour calling for a judicial probe or a House investigation into the alleged mining royalty scam in Katni district.

He alleged that orders favouring a mining company were passed after intervention of the chief minister’s secretariat.

Responding to the tirade, Minister of State for Mineral Resources Rajendra Shukla said a probe committee has been constituted and strict measures were initiated against the guilty. The Katni district collector has already been suspended for laxity.

The reply, however, failed to satisfy Congress members, who stormed out of the House under the leadership of Leader of Opposition Jamuna Devi.
