Deposed Prez of Kyrgyzstan Bakiyev Steps down

The deposed president of Kyrgyzstan Kurmanbek Bakiyev has formally stepped down from his post, reported Al Jazeera citing country’s new leaders.

Roza Otunbayeva, the head of the interim government, said that Bakiyev had submitted his resignation in a hand-written letter faxed to the capital Bishkek, said report.

In a TV address to the nation, Otunbayeva read portions of the letter, report said.

“I tender my resignation in these tragic days as I understand the full scale of my responsibility for the future of the Kyrgyz people,” the letter read.

According to report, Otunbayeva used the address to explain why the interim government took decision to allow Bakiyev to leave, blaming him for bringing the country to the brink of civil war.

She said that he had become a source of instability and that they could no longer tolerate that, Al Jazeera quoted its reporter as saying.
