Vyapam case: MP court orders FIR against Congress’ Digvijaya Singh, Kamal Nath, Jyotiraditya Scindia

Bhopal: A Madhya Pradesh court has directed police to file an FIR against senior Congress leaders Digvijaya Singh, Kamal Nath and Jyotiraditya Scindia, and whistleblower Prashant Pandey in the Vyapam scam case. The court’s order came in response to a petition filed by BJP’s legal cell advocate Santosh Sharma.

The Vyapam scam refers to irregularities in exams held by the Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board for admission in professional courses and state services and involves a number of politicians, businessmen and officials.

The special court of Additional District Judge Suresh Singh, late on Wednesday, asked Shyamla Hills Police Station to file an FIR without delay and submit its copy before the court. The court also asked for the submission of the investigation report in the case by November 13.

The plea filed by the BJP activist on Monday had claimed that the senior Congress leaders had submitted false documents apropos of the Vyapam case. He also accused them of misguiding the Supreme Court and the High Court.

Sharma filed the plea after Digvijaya Singh deposed on Saturday in a court for more than two hours related to his private complaint seeking criminal prosecution of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Union minister Uma Bharti and five others in the scam.

Singh had also attached a 27,000-page charge sheet with the petition. His lawyer Kapil Sibal had at that time said the copy of a document was also submitted in which Chouhan’s name figures 48 times.

State Congress spokesman Bhupendra Gupta, meanwhile, said a new “disturbing” trend has come up in the BJP-ruled Madhya Pradesh where FIRs were filed against the complainants.
