Twenty Nine killed as Bus Plunges into Chambal River

Bhopal: At least 29 people, nine of them women and a girl, were killed and six injured when a bus they were traveling in plunged into Chambal river, some 15 km from Morena, said police.

Police said that the bus fell into Chambal River from Rajghat bridge, some 500 feet high, after breaking its railing.

Santosh Singh, Morena district’s Superintendent of Police (SP), informed that 29 persons were killed and six others injured in the mishap.

He said that the bus was pulled out from the river with the help of a crane and that steamers were pressed into service to rescue the passengers.

The injured persons were taken to Dholpur in Rajasthan where the bus was on its way from Morena, he said.

District collector M K Agrawal has announced Rs 50,000 ex-gratia for the kin of deceased and Rs 25,000 for the injured.
