Tribal Welfare Top Priority: Kunwar Vijay Shah

Bhopal  —  Terming the welfare of tribals as one of the top priorities of the state government, Tribal Welfare Minister Kunwar Vijay Shah urged officials to chalk out an effective strategy for achieving the objective. The minister was addressing a workshop on ‘Tribal healthcare: Status, challenges and Possibilities’ at Academy of Administration in the state capital on Thursday.

The two-day seminar is organised by the Tribal Research and Development Institute.

Calling for a quantum shift, the minister said that it is pertinent to establish dialogue with tribal people in their own dialects and with reference to their own cultures for real development in tribal areas.

Lauding the efforts of the Tribal Research and Development Institute for it’s nationally acclaimed work during the last five years, Shah noted that dictionaries of prominent tribal dialects Gond, Bhil and Korku have been compiled. He said the compilations will go a long way in preserving the cultures of these tribes.

He expressed optimism that the conclusions drawn from discussions among the experts taking part in the workshop will help the policy makers in chalking out schemes in the tribal areas.
