Temporary truce between Digvijaya Singh and Umang Singhar after Kamal Nath intervenes

adhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath has managed a temporary truce between senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh and state forest minister Umang Singhar.

Earlier, Umang Singhar, one of the 28 cabinet ministers from Kamal Nath-led government in Madhya Pradesh, levelled serious allegations against his own party colleague and former chief minister Digvijaya Singh.

Umang Singhar during the past couple of days had launched an all-out attack against Digvijaya Singh by calling him a blackmailer and accusing the leader of providing patronage to the liquor and mining mafia.

The truce between the two factions happened after Kamal Nath called Singhar for a meeting at his house late evening on Tuesday. After the meeting that lasted for over an hour, Singhar for the first time in two days gave a slip to the media.

In a concession to Singhar, immediately after the meeting, Sanjeev Dubey — an assistant excise commissioner of Dhar — was transferred.

Singhar had requested for the transfer of Dubey on at least three occasions in the past but Digvijaya Singh was reported to have stalled the same on all three occasions.

Singhar is also understood to have referred an alleged audio clip of Sanjeev Dubey to the chief minister in which he is heard talking about local MLAs taking protection money from the liquor mafia.

What transpired between Umang Singhar and Digvijaya Singh

Umang Singhar, in a letter written to Congress President Sonia Gandhi, alleged that Digvijay Singh is “trying to destabilise” the Kamal Nath-led government while “trying to establish himself as an alternate power centre”.

“He has been continuously writing letters to the chief minister and his cabinet colleagues and releasing them on social media thus providing ammunition to the opposition BJP to attack the government,” Umang Singhar said.

Singhar on Monday while talking to India Today TV confirmed that he had written a letter to Sonia Gandhi but refused to comment on the contents of the letter.

Umang Singhar on Tuesday had alleged that Digvijaya Singh was patronising the liquor mafia that was taking liquor to Gujarat from the MP side.

Meanwhile, Digvijaya Singh has left for Delhi and would be back in Bhopal on September 6. Till then all ministers including Singhar and those backing Digvijaya Singh are likely to stay quiet on the issue as has been directed from the chief minister’s office.

Digvijaya Singh before leaving for Delhi on Tuesday said that he would be having tea with Singhar on his return to which the state forest minister had quipped: “I will offer him tea without sugar.”

Umang Singhar is the nephew and political heir of late Jamuna Devi, a tall tribal leader who served as deputy chief minister of MP under Digvijaya Singh and later as leader of the opposition.
