Shivraj urges PM to increase the allotment of houses under Indira Awas Yojna

Bhopal: Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan called on Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh at the latter’s residence in New Delhi today and apprised him of houses allotted under the Indira Awas Yojna in the state, coal linkage and condition of National Highways in Madhya Pradesh. Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh gave a patient hearing to the issues raised by Chief Minister Shri Chouhan and assured of early decisions.
Drawing the Prime Minister’s attention towards pending cases of annual allotment of houses under Indira Awas Yojna, Shri Chouhan informed that only 84 thousand 358 houses have been allotted to Madhya Pradesh. Shri Chouhan urged the Prime Minister that annual allotment under the Indira Awas Yojna should be increased to 3.83 lakh units. Similarly, 1.6 houses should be allotted for forest dwellers under the Vanadhikhar Adhiniyam and 1.02 lakh houses under the Homestead Scheme.
Shri Chouhan informed that as per directives of the Union Government, 75 percent weightage is given to the areas facing shortage of houses and 25 percent on the basis percentage of poverty. Shri Chouhan informed that Madhya Pradesh is sixth in the country on the basis of population and fourth in poverty. He said that target of houses fixed for Madhya Pradesh is less than Assam, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.
Shri Chouhan informed the Prime Minister that the Energy Minister had written to the Coal Ministry in 2010 for coal linkage for 660 MW unit of Shri Singaji Thermal Power Project Phase-2. The project is unable to get environmental clearance in the absence of coal linkage and its work has come to a standstill. He urged to give environmental clearance to the project at the earliest.
Shri Chouhan also apprised the Prime Minister of the National Highways’ condition in the state. He urged him that the work of maintenance of National Highways should be taken over by the Prime Minister’s Office.
