SBI-Indore Employees Strikes Work against Merger

Over 6,000 employees of State Bank of Indore across the country went on a strike on Monday to protest moves going on for merger of the bank with the State Bank of India.

“The strike evoked total response,” All India State Bank of Indore Employees’ Co-ordination Committee General Secretary J P Jhawar said.

According to him, strike his the business of around Rs 50, 000 crore which is transacted every day in branches of the bank all over country.

“No work took place in around 522 offices and branches of the bank in the country as the staffers held demonstrations,” he added.

He affirmed that they would carry on their struggle against the merger for it is unfavourable to them and that they have learnt that the proposal for the merger after being passed by the SBI Board had been sent to the Central government for approval.

Apart from Bank of Indore, the State Bank of India was having five associate banks-Bank of Travancore, State Bank of Bikaner and Jaipur, State Bank of Mysore, State Bank of Patiala and State Bank of Hyderabad.

Last year, the SBI’s associate bank-State Bank of Saurashtra was merged with it.
