Road Safety Policy to prevent road accidents: CM

Bhopal. Road Safety Policy will be chalked out to prevent road accidents in the state. A presentation of the proposed policy was made at a meeting of Road Safety Committee chaired by Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan here today. Home Minister Shri Babulal Gaur, PWD Minister Shri Sartaj Singh and Minister of State for Urban Development Shri Lal Singh Arya were also present on the occasion.

The Chief Minister said that road safety rules should be strictly enforced. All concerning departments should make efforts to improve traffic through mutual coordination. Scientific system should be evolved for road safety. Home Minister Shri Gaur said that all departments linked to Road Safety Committee should hold regular meetings.

The meeting was informed about efforts by various departments to increase road safety awareness. In the new road safety policy, for setting up a State Level Road Safety Training Research and Development Centre and state level traffic management centre is proposed for inter-departmental coordination. Proposal has also been made to evolve State Road Safety Rules, prepared road safety information database, evolving road safety infrastructure and arrangements for road safety audit. In it, stress has been laid on increasing road safety awareness and road accident management. Arrangements should be made to ensure that only fit vehicles ply on roads and training will be imparted to drivers. Establishment of State Trauma Centre for state road accident emergency medical services has also been proposed in the policy.

Bhopal Mayor Shri Alok Sharma, Indore Mayor Smt. Malini Gaud, Chief Secretary Shri Anthony de Sa, ACS Home Shri B.P. Singh, DGP Shri Surendra Sinh and other senior administrative officers attended the meeting.
