Providing clean drinking water state governments priority

Bhopal. Union Secretary Drinking Water & Sanitation Shri Parmeshwaran Iyer met Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan here today. The Chief Minister said that providing clean drinking water in rural area is the state government’s priority. For this, group drinking water schemes costing Rs. 18 thousand 500 crore have been chalked out.

The Chief Minister said that villages situated on the banks of Narmada river will be made open defecation-free on priority. Last year better drinking water facility was made available during drought. A scheme is being chalked out to dig a pond in every Gram Panchayat in the state. Under it, work has started on 4000 water bodies Union Secretary Shri Parmeshwaran said that laudable work has been done in Madhya Pradesh in water conservation and Swachchhata Abhiyan. In the state, drinking water schemes have been chalked out through Water Corporation. In the state, 8 districts are going to be declared ODF soon. He stressed the need for more attention to solid and liquid waste management. Principal Secretary PHE Shri Pankaj Agrawal, Principal Secretary Rural Development Smt. Neelam Shami Rao, Principal Secretary to CM Shri S.K. Mishra and PHED’s Engineer-in-Chief Shri G.S. Damor were also present on the occasion.
