Olympian Hockey Player Farzan Chacha Passes Away

Olympian and renowned national hockey player Syed Mushtaque Ali, popularly called Farzan Chacha, breathed his last past night following a prolonged illness at an age of 57, reported PTI.

A permanent member of the Sikandariya Club Bhopal, Ali was suffering from stomach cancer for a long time.

Ali, who was field hockey player, was part of the Indian hockey men’s national team which won the gold medal at the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.

He played in many National Hockey Championship and was working with the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and had played for it since it was formed, said report.

Of late, he was chosen to coach the Madhya Pradesh hockey team, but he did not accept the responsibility because of declining health.
