New irrigation projects introduced in Rabi season

BHOPAL (MPINFO): In the wake of the exercise for increasing irrigation potential in the state, irrigation has been undertaken in 15 lakh 89 hectare area in the Rabi season alone.

Utilisation of water in farms is the basis of projects’ success. Due to major role played by minor irrigation projects in increasing irrigation potential, 180 more minor projects will be sanctioned during rest of the next three months of the current fiscal. Work on 222 minor irrigation projects sanctioned this year has been started.

The minor irrigation projects are going to irrigate vast areas of the state in the years to come. Giving special importance to these projects which take lesser time in getting ready, 222 new projects were sanctioned during the year 2011-12. Foundation has been laid for creation of additional irrigation potential of 90 thousand 505 hectares through these projects. There is a proposal to sanction 180 more minor irrigation projects during rest of the three months of the current year. With this, the total number of the minor irrigation projects sanctioned this year will go up to 402, which will be the highest number of such projects sanctioned in one year.

Total 665 minor irrigation projects were sanctioned and completed during three financial years from 2008-09 to 2010-11 and through them additional irrigation potential of one lakh 11 thousand 668 hectares was created.

Additional irrigation potential of 27 thousand 986 hectares has been created through already under construction minor irrigation projects during year 2011-12 alone.
