National Award to Hoshangabad collector Sanket Bhondve

Bhopal. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will confer National Award to Hoshangabad Collector Shri Sanket Bhondve for excellent works for rehabilitation and upliftment of disabled person. The award will be conferred in New Delhi on December 3.
In Hoshangabad district, various welfare programmes and activities for upliftment of disabled persons have yielded encouraging results. Government of India has selected Hoshangabad in the category of best districts.

To make disabled persons self-reliant and settle them, development block level introductory conventions of would-be disabled grooms and brides were held. As many as 51 disabled couples’ marriages were soleminised at mass marriage functions at district level. The newly married disabled couples were blessed by Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan. At the convention, disabled couples were given gifts by various social organizations Atal Bal Palaks. They performed Kanyadan of disabled brides like their parents and are still extending financial assistance to them and fulfilling other social responsibilities. Muslim disabled couples’ marriages were also solemnized at the mass marriage function. Newly married couples with provided grant of Rs. 50 thousand each and their Aadhar cards and Jan-Dhan bank accounts were opened on the spot and sanction orders issued pertaining to Rupay Card and benefits under other government schemes.

So far, marriages of 101 disabled couples have been solemnised in the district. They were provided jobs in private institutions as per eligibility by holding job fairs. A special campaign was conducted for recruitment of disabled persons in government service and vacancies filled. Besides, they were also benefited under various government schemes. Disabled persons were trained in various trades and provided self-employment through bank loans.

The local level committee constituted in the district under Legal Guardianship Scheme of National Trust has issued certificates to 150 handicapped persons. Under this scheme, 1604 beneficiaries are being given benefit of Niramay Health Insurance Policies worth upto Rs. one lakh each. According to National Trust under Union Social Justice and Empowerment Ministry, Hoshangabad figures in top 5 districts selected under the scheme in entire India during year 2014-15.

Disability certificates have been issued by District Disability and Rehabilitation Centre to 5192 physically challenged, 1055 sight impaired, 508 short vision impaired, 2780 hearing impaired, 2265 mentally retarded and 123 mentally deranged disabled persons. Disabled persons were given 5600 aides equipment and 236 artificial limbs. Pension as per eligibility is being given to all disabled persons in the district.

Pension of Rs. 500 per month is being given to 1566 mentally retarded and persons with multiple disability. They are being benefit on priority under disabled welfare programmes in the district. They are also being extended benefits under toilet construction scheme, Mukhyamantri Aawas, Indira Aawas, scholarships for disabled persons, food grains distribution etc.

Hurdleless ramps etc have been constructed in all government offices in the district to facilitate disabled persons. Presently, disabled persons’ health is being checked, modern and artificial limbs, tri-moped etc are given to disabled persons under Umang programme by holding camps at development block level.
