Narmada-Shipra link river to be completed in 1 year

Bhopal: Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan has directed that Narmada-Kshipra Link Project should be completed within 1 year. He instructed to chalk out a project to link Kali Sindh, Parvati and Gambhir rivers in the next phase. Chief Minister Shri Chouhan was chairing a meeing of Narmada Control Board here today. Water Resources Minister Shri Jayant Malaiya and Minister of State for Narmada Valley Development Shri Kanhaiyalal Agrawal were also present at the meeting.

Chief Minister Shri Chouhan said that after completion of the first phase of the Narmada-Kshipra Link Project, a scheme should also be chalked out to enhance its capacity. He said that it is a major challenge to ensure full use of Narmada water of the state share by 2024. Shri Chouhan said that Narmada-Kshipra Link Project will be such a work towards permanent solution of Malwa area’s drinking water problem, which will pave the way for other river link projects after its completion.

It was informed at the meeting that under the Narmada-Kshipra Link Project, water will be taken through lift irrigation system from Omkareshwar left bank canal to Sisliya reservoir in Barwah tahsil of Khargone district and then from there to village Ujjaini in Indore district upto a height of 348 meters. A 49-kilometer long rising main of 5 cusec capacity will be constructed under the scheme. The scheme will supply adequate drinking water to Dewas and Ujjain cities and will also meet requirements of industries. Besides, water will also be made available in ample quantity to pilgrims during Simhastha-2016.

Chief Secretary Shri R. Parasuram, Principal Secretary Narmada Valley Development Shri Rajneesh Vaish, Principal Secretary Labour Shri Ajay Tirkey, Principal Secretary Finance Shri Ajay Nath, Principal Secretary Water Resources Shri Radheyshyam Julania and concerning officers were also present at the meeting.
