MP get top slot in Wakf properties

Bhopal. Madhya Pradesh is nearing the top slot in the country with regard to Wakf properties. The Union Government has also lauded the works done for management of Wakf properties in the state. Madhya Pradesh has also become the first state of the country to computerise records of 15,000 properties. Similarly, Madhya Pradesh is also the first state where Rs. 80 lakh grant is given to Wakf Board.

Madhya Pradesh Wakf Board has 14 thousand 702 Wakf properties in the form of mosques, burial grounds, dargahs etc. These properties are worth about Rs. 52 thousand crore. It is carrying out various activities for conservation and collection of Wakf records and linking these activities with all the Wakfs. A total of 14 thousand 702 Wakf properties have pre-digitised and digitised. Registration of all the Wakf properties in the state has been completed.

At a meeting of Chairpersons and Principal Secretaries of Wakf last year, computerisation work done in Madhya Pradesh was hailed. In its report, NIC-PMU (Wakf) New Delhi declared Madhya Pradesh Wakf Board as the best in record digitisation. In view of this, the Union Government also recommended to other states to follow footsteps of Madhya Pradesh

Due to efforts of the State Government income of the Board is also increasing constantly. During the year 2011-12, Madhya Pradesh Walk Board earned revenue worth Rs. 11 crore. Managing committees have been constituted to look after 7,702 out of total 14 thousand 702 Wakf properties. Action has also been taken to free Wakf properties from encroachments. Over 3,014 cases of encroachment were registered. Of these, more than 1,000 cases were heard and 306 were referred to concerning district administration for necessary action.

Similarly, work for development of Wakf properties is also being undertaken. Six properties have been developed by obtaining loan from Central Wakf Committee while work is on to develop 16 other properties. Efforts are being made in the direction of development of Wakf properties in Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior and Jabalpur as commercial Wakf properties. The State Government has appointed Survey Commissioner for survey of Wakf properties. A Deputy Collector in each district has been made in-charge of this survey. So far, survey of Wakf properties has been completed in 14 districts. The State Government has also constituted Wakf Tribunal for speedy disposal of cases pertaining to Wakf properties.
