MP: 11 dead in temple stepwell roof collapse in Indore, 19 rescued

Atleast eleven devotees died and 19 rescued in a roof of stepwell collapsed during Ram Navami celebration at the Beleshwar Mahadev Jhulelal temple in the Patel Nagar in Indore on Thursday.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has ordered inquiry into the incident.

The government will provide ₹ 5-5 lakh to the relatives of the deceased and ₹ 50-50 thousand to the injured, Chouhan said.

Today a very unfortunate incident has happened in Indore. Since the incident, I was in constant touch with the administration and was monitoring the rescue operation, the chief minister said.

The entire administration was involved in this campaign to save the people, but despite all the efforts, we could not save many lives, he said.

Due to the heavy load on the stepwell, it sank. I have given instructions to investigate the incident, Chouhan said.

In this unfortunate incident, the government stands with all those families with full sensitivity, he said.

The stepwell is a private property and is the old structure, he said.
