“Mission-2020” for state players’ representation in Olympics : CM

Bhopal: In sports sector, the State Government is targeting “Mission-2020”. Under the Mission, skills of state’s sports talents will be honed to enable them represent Madhya Pradesh and win medals in Olympics-2020. Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan said this while inaugurating newly constructed international-level badminton hall at State Badminton Academy at Gwalior today.
The Chief Minister said that there is no lack of talent and ability in our players. But they need better sports facilities and coaches. State Government has taken effective initiative in this regard, which has yielded encouraging results. He specially referred to players of State Women’s Hockey Academy who brought international laurels to the state. Shri Chouhan exhorted female players of State Women’s Hockey Academy and other state academies on Kampu Sports Complex, Gwalior to work harder and bring medals to the country.
MP Smt. Yashodhara Raje Scindia said that due to cooperation of the State Government, players trained at Gwalior-based sports academies have earned fame for country and state.
Chief Coach of State Badminton Academy Padma Shri Pullela Gopichand said that we have traversed half of our journey by mobilising international-level facilities at the academy. We will reach our destination when players trained here will come out with flying colours in the country and abroad.
Gwalior Mayor Smt. Sameeksha Gupta, Gwalior Development Authority Chairman Shri Jai Singh Kushwaha, Samanya Nirdhan Varg Ayog Chairman Shri Balendu Shukla and Gwalior Trade Fair Authority Chairman Shri Anurag Bansal were also present on the occasion.
CM plays badminton: After inauguration, chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan went round the academy. He also played badminton with international badminton player Shri Pullela Gopichand at the newly constructed court.
The badminton hall has international-level facilities. In the first phase, 4 practice courts and 2 air courts have been constructed at Badminton Academy. So far, Rs. 6.25 crore has been spent on these works. Of this, over Rs. 4.50 crore has been provided by local MP Smt. Yashodhara Raje Scindia from her MP’s Fund.
