Madhya Pradesh tops in soyabean production

Bhopal:Madhya Pradesh is on top in the country in terms of production and crop area of soyabean. Last year, soyabean was sown in 57 lakh 30 thousand hectare area and 58 lakh 12 thousand hectares during the current year. This year, Kharif crops have been sown in 116 lakh 25 thousand hectare area, which is more than estimated target of 114 lakh 70 thousand hectare area. Kharif crops were sown in total 114 lakh 80 thousand hectare area last year.

Kharif crop area has increased as a result of timely availability of seeds, fertiliser and other resources to farmers. Paddy crops have been sown in 16 lakh 65 thousand hectare area. Coarse cereals have also been sown in three lakh 51 thousand hectare area against the estimated target of four lakh 20 thousand hectares. Maize has been sown in nine lakh four thousand hectare area against estimated target of eight lakh 44 thousand hectares. Similarly, cereals have been sown in 32 lakh 92 thousand hectare area, which is almost equal to the target area of 33 lakh 31 thousand hectares.

Among pulses, tuar has been sown in five lakh 46 thousand hectares, urad in six lakh 59 thosuand hectares and moong in one lakh 16 thousand hectare area, which is more than target as well last year’s sowing area. Groundnut has been sown in two lakh 25 thousand hectare, linseed in two lakh 68 thousand hectare and Ramtil in 78 thousand hectare area. Only sowing of cotton has been 50 percent less than estimated area of six lakh 57 thousand hectare. But, sowing in cotton producing area has been affected due to late arrival of monsoon.
