Madhya Pradesh demands Rs 1505 crorer for farmers

BHOPAL,(PTI): Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Shivraj Singh Chouhan demanded a special package of Rs 1505 crore from the Centre for farmers to help them combat with “unprecedented” loss to the crop by frost and cold wave in the state.

In a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, the Chief Minister said the interim survey showed the loss to the crops to be worth Rs 3,686.61 crore in 33.87 lakh hectare area affecting 30.65 lakh farmers and the state”s immediate requirement was Rs 1,505 crore.

CM said in the letter that a detailed survey is being conducted and final figures of the damage would be sent to the Centre for immediate relief.

He said the state also needs assistance for providing employment to the affected families, over and above 100 days under MNREGA.
