Kishore Kumar Award for Gulshan Bawra

The Madhya Pradesh government will confer the 12th National Kishore Kumar Award on noted Bollywood lyricist late Gulshan Bawra at a ceremony in the Khandwa city of the state on Tuesday.

Bawra’s wife Anju Mehta will receive the award, which is being conferred posthumously for the first time.

During a career spanning over four decades Bawra penned 240 songs and is best remembered for the patriotic ‘Mere Desh ki Dharti’ for the 1967 classic ‘Upkar’.

The prestigious award is an annual affair, which until recently was presented in the state capital, before being moved to Khandwa the birth place of the sensational singer-actor, who often referred to himself as ‘Khandwawala’.
