Kanika Singhal of Bhopal solved 150 question in eight minutes

BHOPAL: Seven year old Kanika Singhal of 1st Standard from St. Joseph’s Convent School won the unique distinction Solving 150 arithmetic questions correctly in eight minutes, at the 17th UCMAS Abacus and Mental Arithmetic International Competition held at Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia.

She stood 5th place at International level amongst hundreds of student from 50 countries participated in the contest. Sr. Lilly, Principal of St. Joseph’s Convent School supported her in this mission

Kanika Singhal, a student of St. Joseph’s Convent School, was chosen to represent the city at the international grand level was an open competition in which about 4000 children from 50 countries participated.

Kanika Singhal, said “Abacus has helped me in enhancing my learning abilities, increase the speed and also in grasping power.” “I worked hard for this competition. Moreover, I was confident,” she added.

The Abacus, also called a counting frame, is a calculating tool used for performing arithmetic processes. UCMAS is – Universal Concept Mental Arithmetic System. Children are helped to enhance their learning abilities, increase their speed, attain accuracy and proficiency in all subjects. It also improves the ability to concentrate and focus one’s attention on a particular subject. It is postulated that Abacus helps both halves of the brain to work simultaneously.

She is the daughter of the proud parents, Mr. Kunal Singhal and Ekta Singhal of Vasundhara Travels, a well known travel agency . She got trained from Ucmass Abacus, New Market under the able guidance of Ms. Aparna and with the hard work of Mother Ms. Ekta Singhal , She stood in IInd Level.Kanika was awarded with a trophy in a program conducted by Ucmass International Council.
