Kamal Nath Sworn-in to Cabinet, others from MP to Follow

Bhopal: Top Congress leader and the Union Minister for industries in the outgoing UPA government, Kamal Nath earned the distinction of being the only leader from Madhya Pradesh to be included into the 19 member cabinet sworn in by President Pratibha Patil on Friday.

Nath, an alumnus of the prestigious Doon School and St. Xaviers College Calcutta, is in his eighth Lok Sabha term since his maiden entry into the lower House in 1980.

Widely regarded as a Sonia Gandhi loyalist, Kamal Nath served as AICC general secretary between 2001-04. He has also served as MoS Environment and Forests from (1991-95), MoS Textiles from (1995-96) and held the prominent cabinet portfolio for Commerce & Industry (2004-09).

Though, portfolios are yet to be decided for the 19 strong ministerial contingent sworn-in on Friday, media reports suggest Kamal Nath is in the reckoning to head the coveted External Affairs Ministry.

Several other leaders from Madhya Pradesh, including Jyotiraditya Scindia and Kantilal Bhuria, are likely to be included when Premier Manmohan Singh expands his ministerial council next week.
