Journalism should properly guide society: Governor

Bhopal: While addressing 30th annual function of Madhavrao Sapre Memorial Newspaper Museum here today, Governor Shri Ram Naresh Yadav said that Indian journalism boasts of glorious past since all heroes of freedom struggle were associated with it. Journalism is meaningful only when it guides society properly. Media should highlight all aspects and not any particular ideology. On the occasion, Governor Shri Yadav honoured 15 outstanding journalists and social workers associated with journalism. The function was presided over by litterateur Prof. Ramesh Chandra Shah. The Governor also went round an exhibition organised on the occasion.

Governor Shri Yadav said that youths have brought about every revolution in the country. Young journalists should draw inspiration from sacrifices of freedom fighters to give a new thinking and direction to the country. Shri Yadav said that entire history of India’s freedom movement, reforms, Swadeshi and economic movement etc. are safe between the lines of newspapers and magazines. Shri Yadav said that great freedom fighters like Mahatma Gandhi, Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad etc. had chosen media as a tool for service to nation and social reforms by realising its might.

Presiding over the function, Prof. Shah said that journalism has undergone a sea change since ancient times till date. We should not stray from our values and journalistic traditions and practices. He said that Sapre Museum is a unique museum of newspapers and magazines. Institution’s Founder Coordinator Shri Vijaydutt Shridhar gave detailed information regarding the museum. Additional Secretary Public Relations Shri Lajpat Ahuja said that there is no end to creative journey of journalism. We have inherited heritage of humanity and behaving courteously with journalists, he added.

The Governor conferred Santosh Kumar Shukla Memorial Award to Additional Secretary Public Relations Shri Lajpat Ahuja, Rajendra Nutan Award to Shri Bhagwan Upadhyay, Yugal Kishore Shukla Award to Prof. Kamal Dixit & Shri Arvind Sheele, Makhanlal Chaturvedi Award to Shri Arun Chouhan, Jagdish Prasad Chaturvedi Award to Shri Rajesh Chaturvedi & Shri Chandravesh Pandey, Jhabarmall Sharma Award to Shri Om Prakash Gaur, Rameshwar Guru Award to Dr. Vidyulalta and Sushri Khushboo Joshi, K.P. Narayanan Award to Shri Anup Dutta, Yashwant Argare Award to Shri Rajesh Gaba, Arogya Sudha Puruskar to Shri Anil Sirwaiya, Homai Vyaralwala Award to Shri Naval Jaiswal and Shri Mujeeb Farooqui. Institution’s Chairman Shri Shiv Kumar Awasthi, Vice-Chairman Dr. Rakesh Pathak, Director Dr. Mangla Anuja and large number of journalists and distinguished citizens were present on the occasion.
